Biography

Marco Lau: Artist between past and vision

Marco Lau, born in 1975 in Brandenburg, is an artist who expresses his eventful life story in unique, emotionally profound works. Characterised by a childhood full of challenges and a youth determined by homelessness, dependencies and the struggle for survival on the streets of Berlin, today it is proof that change is possible. His art is not only an expression of his life’s path, but also an invitation to reflect on topics such as loss, hope and resilience.

From fighter to artist: An extraordinary journey

Marco’s path to a stable and fulfilling life began in Bamberg, where he dared a new beginning in 2001. In the church of St. Elizabeth he found not only a place of retreat, but also a community that gave him support and meaning. He became Mesner, was baptized and found himself by faith. This experience gave him the strength he needed to leave his past behind and look ahead.

Art as an Expression of Freedom

In parallel, Marco Lau began to use art as his personal language. He discovered not only a new creative passion, but a way to redefine himself. As an autodidact, he creates works that are characterized by emotional depth and stylistic diversity. Whether oil, acrylic or screen printing – Marco’s pictures alternate between abstraction and representation.

His works are characterized by a deep authenticity. His art is a play with forms, colors and emotions that leaves room for interpretation – sometimes gentle and harmonious, sometimes wild and challenging. But one thing is constant: every canvas tells a story, every color carries emotions within it.

"Nobody can prescribe me when painting," says Marco Lau, emphasizing the personal and liberating character of his work.

From public space to your own gallery

His art initially made Marco Lau visible in an unconventional way: in the parks of the Bamberg Hain and on the Upper Bridge he exhibited his works – without permission, but with great success. From 2022 to 2024 his paintings found spacious exhibition spaces in the "Gallery Lau", Luitpoldstraße 53 in Bamberg. The 80-square-meter exhibition space was not only a place of presentation, but also a meeting point for the exchange between artists and audiences.

Lau has always sought new ways to make his art visible – whether through exhibitions in public places, in unconventional spaces or via digital platforms and social media.

Art as a bridge between past and future

Today, Marco Lau is not only a painter, but also a role model for resilience and change. His story inspires people to face life’s challenges and regain strength from adversity. His pictures show the depth of a personality who has found her way despite all opposition – a path that combines hope, courage and creativity.

His works carry a message: the power to confront one’s own history and the courage to dare something new.

With his history and art, Marco Lau inspires people to look beyond the visible and appreciate life in all its facets.
